The boy nobody loved - Chapter 1

In the beginning there was consciousness

Some believe that the Soul is eternal.  It just inhabits a body at some stage, and then it is released again.

But then where does it go when it’s not within a body?  What does it do?

We could suppose that the Soul, or consciousness, is just like a little blob that floats in space, wandering in amazement at the wonders of the Universe until it is time to be born again.

That is certainly how our protagonist felt.  He was amongst the stars.  When he wasn’t thinking he was in a vast dark space, with myriads of little lights twinkling in the distance.

He was in a vast dark space, with myriads of little lights

If he focused on one single light, he would see it in all its splendid glory. If that little blob of consciousness could breathe, what he could see would have taken his breath away. Hopping from one galaxy to the next. Enjoying each star system, and in constant awe life was amazingly good.

If he focused on one single light, he would see it in all its splendid glory.

But then one day he became a human being. He slowly became aware that he was somewhere else.  For some time, he kept switching between the stars, and this new place. Slowly adapting to a new state of being.

As his awareness grew, so did his understanding of where he was.  He was somewhere dark, and not unpleasant.  At times it was actually quite pleasurable.  It was dark, not that he knew what that meant yet, or what the difference between light and dark was.  He couldn’t see. But it was warm and cosy.

Eventually, he realised he was in a container.  Something he eventually learnt was called a “body”.  He wasn’t aware his container was inside another container.  That of his maker.  I am only mentioning it because we think of a foetus in their mother’s womb.  But that to him was inconsequential. He was aware, however, that the place his body was in was contained in something that could stretch and that was wrapped around him tightly.

He kept travelling with his consciousness between the stars, and the new place.  He didn’t know he was doing that.  He was just being.  His consciousness was slowly adapting to his new environment.
